V6 - Manage Permissions in Version 6

Here's a step-by-step guide on delineating who has permission to do what in Typing Agent Version 6.

Written by Gia Deleveaux

Main administrators use the Permissions page to decide which school-level features are available to administrators, teachers, or no one outside the main administrator role. Main administrators always retain full control of these settings.

Here's what you do:

Open the Permissions Page

  1. Sign in to Typing Agent Version 6 as a main administrator.

  2. Select Settings from the left navigation menu.

  3. In the School Settings panel, select Permissions.

  4. Review the available permissions by category.

Once you've made your selections, click the SAVE changes button at the bottom of the page. Once you click that, a green Settings saved message will appear at the bottom right.

Understand the Permission Levels

Most permissions provide three access choices:

Admins + Teachers

Select this option when both administrators and teachers should be able to use the feature.

Admins only

Select this option when administrators should have access, but teachers should not.

Disabled

Select this option when the feature should not be available to administrators or teachers. Main administrators continue to retain control even when a permission is set to Disabled.

Set Curriculum Permissions

Under Curriculum, locate Enable / disable curriculum.

This permission controls who can add or remove curriculum applications from a student’s account.

Choose:

  • Admins + Teachers to allow both groups to manage student curriculum.

  • Admins only to limit curriculum changes to administrators.

  • Disabled to prevent administrators and teachers from making these changes.

Set Student Permissions

The Students section includes permissions for student records, passwords, and accommodations.

Student management

Controls who can:

  • Add students

  • Edit students

  • Delete students

  • Move students

Use Admins only when student account changes should be handled centrally.

Reset student password

Controls who can change student passwords.

Select Admins + Teachers when teachers should be able to help students regain access during class. Select Admins only when password changes must be handled by school administrators.

Student accommodations

Controls who can change student-specific:

  • Targets

  • Settings

  • Games

  • Accessibility options

  • Digital Citizenship application settings

Choose access based on whether teachers are permitted to adjust these options for their own students.

Set Classroom Permissions

Under Classrooms, locate Classroom management.

This permission controls who can:

  • Create classrooms

  • Edit classrooms

  • Delete classrooms

  • Enable or reset class codes

  • Add teachers to classrooms

Select Admins + Teachers when teachers manage their own classroom setup. Select Admins only when class creation and teacher assignments are controlled centrally.

Set Gradebook Permissions

The Gradebook section uses switches rather than the three-option permission selector.

Allow the school or district's grading system to be changed

Turn this setting on to allow teachers and administrators to override the Gradebook for grading students in classes.

Turn it off when lesson grades should remain unchanged.

Lock the Gradebook

Turn this setting on to prevent grade overrides across the school’s Gradebook.

This is a broader restriction than the individual override setting. Use it when no grade changes are permitted.

Recommended Permission Setup

A main administrator may choose different settings based on how the school manages accounts.

Teacher-managed classrooms

Use Admins + Teachers for:

  • Curriculum management

  • Student password resets

  • Student accommodations

  • Classroom management

Keep student account creation, deletion, and movement restricted when those tasks are handled by office or district staff.

Centrally managed schools

Use Admins only for most permissions when administrators control:

  • Student rosters

  • Curriculum assignments

  • Classroom setup

  • Password resets

  • Accommodations

Highly restricted environments

Use Disabled for features that should not be changed by regular administrators or teachers. Main administrators will still retain control.

Review Permissions Before Finishing

After making changes, confirm that:

  1. Each permission has the intended access level.

  2. Teachers can access only the features required for their role.

  3. Sensitive student-management tasks are restricted appropriately.

  4. Gradebook override settings do not conflict with the school’s grading policies.

  5. The All changes saved confirmation appears at the top of the page.
