V6 Teacher's Guide

This guide walks school administrators and teachers through setting up their Typing Agent Version 6 account.

Written by Gia Deleveaux

Use your school’s Typing Agent account. The options you see depend on your role, permissions, and roster setup. If your school uses Clever or ClassLink, follow your administrator’s process for roster changes.

Sign in with your school account

  1. Everyone, students and teachers alike, signs in at the same Typing Agent web address that your school gives you.

  2. Choose your school’s sign-in button, such as Google, Microsoft, Clever, or ClassLink. Use your school account.

  3. If you sign in with a username, enter your username and password. Enter your school domain if the page asks for it.

  4. Select Sign in. Check that you have opened your own account.

Choose the sign-in method your school uses. Your school may show fewer buttons.

Choose the sign-in method your school uses. Your school may show fewer buttons.

Helpful tip: A sign-in button and a roster connection do different jobs. Ask your administrator if your account is missing or opens the wrong school.

Know what your role lets you do

  1. Check your role: teacher, school administrator, district administrator, or student.

  2. Teachers manage their assigned classes and students. School administrators manage their school. District administrators work across their district’s schools.

  3. If a button is missing, ask your administrator to check your role and permissions.

Helpful tip: Two people can see different menus because they have different roles or permissions.

Teachers

Create a class as a teacher

  1. Select Classes in the left menu.

  2. Select + Add Class → Add one class.

  3. Enter a clear class name, such as Period 2 Keyboarding, and choose the grade.

  4. Confirm the teacher if the form asks. Select Create Class, or Create & Add Students to build the roster next.

  5. Open the class and check that its name and grade are correct.

School technology staff

Check devices before students start

  1. Check the current Typing Agent technical requirements with support. Update to the school-approved supported browser and operating system.

  2. Test the school sign-in link and the sign-in provider your school uses.

  3. With a test student, open an assigned course and complete an activity.

  4. Check that the result saves and that the student can return home.

  5. Repeat on each device and keyboard setup students will use.

Helpful tip: A successful sign-in does not prove that every course or activity will work on that device.

Students with teacher help

Fix apostrophes or keys that type the wrong character

  1. Click or tap the typing activity so it has focus.

  2. Compare the character on the screen with the character the keyboard enters.

  3. Ask your teacher or school IT to check the keyboard language and layout. For an English US-keyboard activity, use the matching US keyboard layout.

  4. Ask them to check smart punctuation or text replacement if quotes or apostrophes change automatically.

  5. If the problem continues, share the course, lesson, device, and a screenshot of the unexpected character.

For an English US-keyboard activity, check that the active input layout matches the lesson.
